Plantago major L.
LLANTÉN
The Plantago genus includes about 200 different species, the psyllium and the three plantains stand out for their therapeutic virtues, used since ancient times (Greater Plantain, Lesser Plantain and Medium Plantain)
The latter have similar properties.

Composition:

Mucilages that give them emollient, expectorant, antitussive and warlike properties.
Tannins that make them astringent, hemostatic and healing.
Pectina
Chromogenic glycosides (aucubin and catalpol) with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic action.
The Greater Plantain also contains:
Phenolic acids, flavonoids, choline and the alkaloid noscapine with antispasmodic and antitussive properties.
Parts used- Whole plant (leaves, flower spike and root)
Its main applications are:
Respiratory conditions - Fluidize secretions, facilitate their elimination, deflate the bronchial mucosa and calm coughs.
Mouth and throat conditions.- Mouth rinses and gargles are made in case of inflammation of the oral mucosa (stomatitis), inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), pharyngitis, tonsillitis and laryngitis.
